Horses need to sweat to cool their bodies, increasing their need for electrolytes and other minerals. Water requirement can easily quadruple to 20 plus gallons a day. Their water need and intake is directly influenced by amount of dry roughages eaten, air temperature, humidity, shade or direct sun, cleanliness of water, temperature of water, and exercise program. Three percent dehydration can reduce performance and 11% can be life-threatening. Show your love for your horse by keeping him well supplied with clean, fresh water 24hrs a day.
